The hidden details of the trailer of Birds of prey
Warner Bros. Pictures couldn't have picked a better time to release the first trailer for the new Harley Quinn movie. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harley Quinn) - Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) in English- is the name given to this new film starring none other than "the girlfriend of Joker«, the latter character right now on everyone's lips before the imminent premiere of the controversial film by Todd Philips (with Joaquin Phoenix in the main role).
In case you don't know, Birds of prey is the name given in DC Comics stories to a fairly diverse team of superheroines that was part of various publications for nearly a decade. The list of members has varied greatly over time, but, in the case of the film that we will see soon, it will be made up of Harley, as the central axis, along with Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and Renee Montoya.
This spin-off of Suicide squad introduces us to a Harley Quinn something deranged -even more, yes- and scorned right after separating from Joker. In her new single life, she will meet and join the aforementioned heroines to save a girl (who is none other than Cassandra Cain) from the hands of the supervillain Black Mask.
As we said, its first trailer was released a couple of days ago -on these lines- and with it we were able to get an idea of what this new installment looks like and how the story has been raised. Not only that. We have also come across, thanks to its viewing, certain winks and curiosities Which is worth commenting on here:
- At no point in the trailer does Ewan McGregor (who plays black mask) in his costume, however, it is possible to see a moment (0:49) in which he raises his hands to his face and just behind it is a face masked in black.
- Harley has a hyena in the film. It's a nod to the two hyenas that the character and Joker have in the comics.
- And yet another nod to its origins. At various times in the trailer, the protagonist is seen wearing some roller skates frame wheels or with a mallet in the hand. ring a bell?
- We have a tribute in all royalties to Marilyn Monroe in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." Quinn appears on stage in a similar pink dress, the same hairstyle, and even a freckle on her cheek (this time in the shape of a heart). And be careful because the dancers are men… with black masks on their faces!
- Near the end of the trailer you can see how Harley walks down an alley with Ace Chemicals background. It is in this chemical factory that Joker transforms, bleaching his skin after falling into a vat.
- Two important characters appear on the scene to review. One is Victor Zsasz, villain and enemy of Batman (minute 1:00), with his characteristic scars on his face. The other one is really a nod to another villain from the comics: The Scarecrow -under these lines.
- ¡Cassandra speaks! While in the comics the character remains largely silent, it seems that in the movie they have taken license to give Cassandra more play, relating to the rest of the team.
- A lot of people are complaining that Joker does not have his famous tattoo on the forehead in the drawing that appears at minute 0:22. If you notice, the image only has a small expression line instead of the "Damaged" feature. A detail that is too small, however, has captured the attention of many fans. It will be for complaining...
When is Harley Quinn released?
The film, directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodson, stars Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), Rosie Pérez (Renee Montoya), Ella Jay Basco ( Cassandra Cain), Chris Messina (Victor Zsasz) and Ewan McGregor (Roman Sionis/Black Mask).
