DJI Osmo Action, the new DJI camera arrives to eat the GoPro

DJI has just officially presented the action camera that we had already seen in hearsay. The DJi Osmo Action It is the latest proposal from the well-known manufacturer. A camera that, this time, is competing directly with GoPro and its Heroes.

DJI's new camera is designed for action sports as well as other situations where, due to size and weight, it is a better option than other cameras on the market. And of course, for all those uses in which GoPro cameras had made a name for themselves.

The Osmo Action is a small camera with dimensions of 65 x 42 x 35 mm and a weight of 134 grams. Physically it does not differ much from the rest of the action cameras on the market, although there are two elements that attract attention: their screens.

On the back it has a 2,25-inch screen, while on the front it is 1,4 inches with a 1:1 aspect ratio. The idea is to offer the user the possibility to perfectly check the image he is capturing. On the front you would have the same "problem" as with the Osmo Pocket, it will cut off the sides and you will have to know how to calculate how far it captures or not, although it seems that here the full image can be shown instead of showing stripes above and below.

Regarding its photo and video capabilities, the Osmo Action is capable of recording at 4K resolution and 60fps. Being able to also record in slow motion at a maximum frame rate per second of 240 fps and 1080p resolution. All this with a maximum bitrate of 100 Mbps which, to give you an idea, is what the cameras of their drones offer. So, the image quality seems to be very similar or identical to what you see in the DJI Osmo Pocket or the latest Mavic 2 Pro.

The camera also offers an electronic stabilization system (IS) called RockSteady. To do this, together with the cropping of the image captured by the sensor and various algorithms, the video capture is stabilized. And we do not forget its protection against dust and water either. Thanks to its waterproof seal and design, it is prepared to be submerged up to 11m. Also, as an extra, it includes a hydrophobic layer on the rear screen.

With buttons designed for quick and agile operation and configuration, the camera will also be compatible with the DJI Mimo mobile application. To use it, we will connect both devices through the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth 4.2 connection that it incorporates. From the application, in addition to accessing the settings, we can also share content with the My Story templates, among other functions.

The DJI Osmo Action camera is priced at $379 and a series of accessories are also offered to complete and improve its use. These accessories range from a camera mount, adhesive mounts, submersible housing for immersions up to 60m, adapter for external microphones with 3,5mm jack, extension arm, floating grip, ND Filters and camera center.
