The iPhone 12 mini charges 20% slower than other models

El iPhone 12mini it has wireless charging capability befitting of its last name, mini. That is to say, although it shares the same system as its other brothers, the smallest of the new iPhones it will not be able to charge with the same speed. The reason is none other than the restriction that the company applies, although it is something that is not well understood why it happens.

Up to 20% slower on wireless charging

When Apple presented its new iPhone 12, one of the elements that attracted the most attention was the new MagSafe connector. This was not a really new idea, because we had already seen it in the brand's laptops for years, but it was still interesting because of the theoretical advantages it could offer.

Among all these advantages and beyond the accessories that it would allow to create, such as Apple's own covers and card holders or the supports of brands such as Momento, the most attractive thing of all is that the new connection system optimized through that ring of magnets it would also improve the efficiency of wireless charging.

As it was suggested, the magnet system would ensure contact between the terminal's charging coil and the charger. This would optimize the entire charging process, although it would not mean a much faster charge. What's more, it is true that it is somewhat faster compared to previous generations, but there are still restrictions that are difficult to understand.

The most striking of all is that the iPhone 12 mini has wireless charging which turns out to be approximately 20% slower than the rest of the new iPhones this year. The reason? Well, the delivery of power is limited to 12W instead of the 15W that the iPhone 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max accept.

Correct, a somewhat absurd limitation, although Apple will have a reason for having made that decision. Which? Well, for now, we don't know. It is true that this iPhone 12 mini has a smaller battery than the rest of its siblings and the time required to go from 0 to 100 may be similar even if it is made somewhat slower, but it is still striking.

Of course, if all this is surprising, so is the fact that if you are using any accessory connected to Lightning port, wireless charging is further reduced (this time on all iPhones) and goes from those 15W or 12W to 7,5w. Here it is clear that it is a matter of regulation.

MagSafe is not fast wireless charging but safe charging

With all this, beyond the controversy and comparisons that may arise due to what the competition does or does not do, what is clear is that MagSafe does not offer optimization for faster wireless charging.

The great reason or main advantage of the new connector is to ensure that when a wireless charger is used, the charging process will be done yes or yes. That is, you will not have to worry about not having placed the phone in the exact position because the magnets will take care of it. So, when you go to pick up your new iPhone you will be sure that it will have charged.
