Xiaomi seems to have a list, now yes, what it could be the definitive solution to the problem of front cameras and all screen devices. A technology that they have been working on for some time and that without sacrificing image quality allows us to forget to see said camera and resort to impractical solutions such as telescope-type mechanisms.
The camera under the Xiaomi screen
From the iPhone notch, an important "stain" on the screen that covers the front camera and the rest of the sensors that make up Touch ID, to the drop-type notch of many Android terminals or the solutions that, through the use of various mechanisms, allow carrying the front camera to other locations, the manufacturers of mobile phones and even tablets have always worked to offer the maximum use of the front and therefore the screen with the largest possible diagonal.
Even so, being the least bad, none of these solutions was one hundred percent ideal for this idea of all-screen devices. However, Xiaomi has shown the third generation of its technology that allows the integration of the front camera under the screen and the truth is that now we can say that we have reached an interesting point of maturity.
In this first sample, what we see is a new Xiaomi prototype, but fully functional. This is used to see how they have progressed and the first thing that stands out is that there is no sacrifice in the pixel density of the screen. This means that you will not notice any kind of noticeable difference between one area and another. Something that did happen with previous versions of the technology and that made you know where the front camera was if you looked a little bit.
To achieve this greater density, what they did was modify pixel layout. A change that improved in that aspect and did not compromise the passage of light to the sensor to be able to capture the photo or video.
Of course, best of all, this increase in the number of supixels, and therefore density of the screen, also allows the color capable of representing and the brightness in that area does not imply a significant change relative to the rest of the screen. Logically observing conscientiously there will be differences, but they will be very far from what we saw previously.
Although it is also important that according to the brand the quality when capturing images is not affected. Nothing of a vague and dark photography, now the jump is remarkable and the quality will be equal to a large percentage of current front cameras. Here is a demo video.
When will the first phone with a camera under the screen
Now the question that many of us ask ourselves is when will Xiaomi release its first camera phone under the real screen. That is, one where there are no major compromises in usability or image quality.
Well, this question is difficult to answer, but everything indicates that it will be from 2021 when they begin to become popular these kinds of solutions. Also, it must be remembered that not only Xiaomi is investing in them, other brands are also working in the same direction and could get ahead.
Anyway, whatever it is and who does it first, the important thing is that we are closer to devices where we can really enjoy the entire screen without any element that can disturb or distract us. And the best, with the largest diagonal that the device allows. Thus being able to say goodbye to some frames that in the middle of 2020 are a real nonsense. Although this is not a problem for Xiaomi after seeing proposals as attractive as the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite.
