Australia begins to use a system based on AI for the detection of reckless drivers who use their mobile phones while driving. A practice that we all know is dangerous but many continue to do it without thinking about themselves or other users.

The use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited in the vast majority of countries for a simple matter of road safety, both for the driver and for other users who circulate or use public roads. The problem is that it is not always followed and there are still people who take a look or interact with their phone while behind the wheel, an action that carries more risks than you can imagine.
To solve or discourage the use of the phone, the New South Wales government has implemented a camera system that, through the use of artificial intelligence, is capable of detecting users who use it while driving.
Through some special cameras with infrared flash It can be analyzed with total effectiveness and at any time of the day, night or not and whatever the weather, the driver and whether or not he is using the phone recklessly. Oh, and another important fact, these cameras with AI are capable of detecting drivers who are even going at high speeds (vehicles up to 300 km/h are capable of capturing and analyzing this camera with AI).
As the New South Wales government has shared, with only two chambers managed to identify more than 100 thousand reckless users after analyzing some 8,5 million cars that circulated through the points where they had been located.
Logically, the sanction does not apply directly after the captures of this camera system. These are limited only to detect possible imprudence. Then trained personnel re-analyze the images to rule out possible cases in which the driver has not committed any type of infraction because, for example, it is the co-driver who uses the phone that the AI detects.
In the event that there is a possible infringement, the image verified by people goes to a judge who analyzes it again and then issues the sanction order that would reach the user.
As you can see in the video, the operation is very simple. The camera takes pictures of the users who pass through the areas where they are placed, the AI analyzes them and if it finds a pattern that indicates that it has the phone in its hand, then it selects it and the administrative process begins.
Will it be effective and help reduce phone use on the road? Well, we'll have to see how it works in the country, but with 45 different points that want to be installed and seeing the results of the first two cameras, the logical thing to do is to think so. For now, they would only receive a warning, but in the future it is indicated that they will apply fines.
If you drive, you may think that this action of picking up the phone, even thinking that nothing will happen and it will only be a quick thing, does not imply much risk. But it is not like that and you have to raise awareness to stop doing it.
