If we talk about virtual reality, today the company that is betting the most on bringing viewers to all kinds of homes is Facebook with its Oculus Quest and its virtual platform supported by the social network community. It is the clear winner, but in this virtual race, there are also losers and withdrawals.
Google says goodbye to virtual reality
The release of Android 11 has confirmed a death foretold. Google's virtual reality platform, daydream, it has ceased to exist in the operating system, so all those users with phones updated to the latest version will no longer be able to run the application with their viewers.
This means that many of the applications that use the platform will stop working, so the options to enter the virtual world through Android have completely evaporated.
Lack of interest leads to blackout
Daydream has gone unnoticed on Android. With performance that could sometimes be more than improved and a lack of interesting proposals for the user, Google's virtual reality option had its days numbered, so it was to be expected that sooner or later the giant would take action in this regard.
And it is that seeing options as advanced as those of Oculus or HTC, the Daydream project with its not so advanced viewers was not quite an interesting product, since it practically did not offer anything special since the project was born with a simple cardboard viewer that anyone could make at home. Interestingly, Lenovo had an independent viewer that seemed to take a leap in quality from the experience offered by the original Daydream viewer, but that has not helped to capture the eyes of users, who were already focused on other proposals on the market.
Mobile virtual reality has an owner
The idea of enjoying virtual reality with a mobile device without having to depend on a powerful computer is something that has interested many users a lot, however, the launch of Oculus Quest may have been the key piece in this movement, something that Google did not know how to counteract and that has inevitably ended up taking its toll.
Today the Oculus Quest 2 is considered the best independent virtual reality glasses, since without the need for a computer, enjoy an extremely complete ecosystem with an incredible range of possibilities that take the virtual experience beyond leisure and fun, being able to use the viewer also as a productive tool.
