Sony has announced the availability of a new beta program with which users can experimentally test the new features that will be coming to the console in the coming months. This is a measure similar to the one that Microsoft carries out with its Program Previews, although it seems that at the moment the access will be quite limited.
Software betas are coming to PS5
The arrival of this program is not the result of chance. Apparently, Sony is preparing a big update for the end of the year, and with the intention of having everything tied up and that everything goes like a charm, it is going to ask some users for help so that they can test the functions and report any type of problem apparent.
To this end, it has inaugurated a new beta program in which those interested users can sign up with the intention of receiving updates in advance before they officially reach the console. The idea is none other than to be able to open up a range of testers that report on the problems or incompatibilities that arise from the new update, so that they can more easily polish the software and achieve a more precise and error-free release.
How to install a beta on PS5
In order to access the PS5 beta service You must meet some minimum requirements, among which is the country of origin. As Sony indicates on its own registration page for the PlayStation 5 beta software program, only users living in the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, France and Germany will be admitted, which means that users in Spain and Mexico will not be able to access these betas at the moment.
It is important to remember that these types of betas are nothing more than versions of unfinished software that could present sudden problems, problems that volunteers to test it will fully agree to suffer if they exist.
How can I sign up for the PS5 beta program?
If you live in one of the countries enrolled in the program, you only have to meet the following requirements:
- Be of legal age exceeding 18 years.
- Have a valid PSN account with an accessible email address.
- Agree to provide feedback to Sony Interactive Entertainment about the use of the beta.
If you meet these requirements, you will only have to access the following web page with your PlayStation profile logged in to accept the terms and conditions of use. Doing so will not guarantee that you will receive the updates, since as we have indicated, you must be in one of the selected countries for the download to appear on your PS5 console system.
What will I be able to test with the beta?
As is often the case with these types of updates, the features included are always extra features that arrive for the first time, so these types of versions are extremely interesting to keep an eye on what is to come.
Sony has not gone into details about what function we will see in this first major update, but everything indicates that we would be facing the long-awaited function of activation of external SSD. If so, we would be at the first opportunity to expand the internal storage unit of PS5 with an SSD that allows you to enjoy the same write speeds of the original drive. However, we also don't have any details on which drives and SSDs will be supported, so something tells us this is going to be a long and tedious process.
