PlayStation has announced a new accessory that will hit stores next February. It is a component that adds two extra buttons to the controller at the bottom, something like what the Xbox One Elite Controller already introduced, but with a certain modern air.
The rear buttons of the Dualshock 4
Manufacturers are determined to add more buttons to controllers that are riddled with them, and although this idea may seem crazy to you, the truth is that the demanding public asks for more control options with which to improve and reduce response time in full game. For this, a solution is to include buttons in an area until now dead on the gamepad, which is none other than the lower part of it. It is a place where the fingers rest, therefore, it is the perfect place to include buttons that can be pressed.
While Microsoft chose to include a series of easy-to-install mechanical levers, Sony has preferred to opt for a single larger piece that does everything. On the one hand we will have two programmable buttons that seem to be able to be pressed quite well, something that however is more complicated (or requires more precision in the case of the Microsoft remote), while in the center we will find a small monochrome OLED screen that will report the function that the buttons are performing at that moment.

The buttons can function as any of the 16 that exist on the controller (except the PS button and the directions of the analog sticks), and we can program up to three different profiles so that we have different configurations for different games. Also, since it uses the controller's comms port and overrides the headset port, I included an extra 3,5mm port so we can still plug in our wired headsets.
How much does this back button accessory for the Dualshock 4 cost?
This new accessory will officially arrive in stores on February 14, and its price will be 29,99 euros, an amount that may seem a bit high to us considering what the remote already costs separately. We will see if Sony is encouraged to reduce the price a bit or if a new Dualshock 4 is launched with these integrated buttons.
